Reel Big Fish is finally releasing its first independent studio album since leaving its former label. The self-produced Monkeys For Nothin’ And The Chimps For Free finds the members of Reel Big Fish doing things their way. In fact, it features material done their way, from quite a long ways back.
“We decided we were going to do a B-sides and rarities thing, but we didn’t have anything to release, so we were going to re-record some things that we were going to call B-sides and rarities,” explains Barrett. “But then we realized that most of that stuff no one had ever heard, so it wasn’t really B-sides and rarities, it was just new songs. But those weren’t good enough, so we wrote some new songs that were actually new, and suddenly we’re making a new album.”
After more than 15 years of conveying negative vibes, warning listeners about the dangers of being in a band and lamenting their time in the music industry, the members of Southern California ska-punk stalwarts Reel Big Fish want to let the world know of a big change: They’re finally happy.

Homo Erectus is Adam Rifkin’s new caveman comedy and it looks fantastic, you can check out a trailer on the website. National Lampoon has signed on to distribute it and it also stars David Carradine and Talia Shire.
OMD says:
A philosophical caveman (Rifkin) yearns for more out of life than sticks, stones and raw meat.
And if you are thinking that it is just an updated take on caveman, well, maybe so, but it still looks like it will be an enjoyable 90 minutes.

In a note to his fans about his plans for an upcoming musical vacation, he wrote, “The idea of painting a large bus psychedelic purple, not taking baths for a week and driving around the country jamming out on one chord about the war got shot down quickly.”
Other acts performing on the Ben Folds Experience cruise include Amanda Palmer of Dresden Dolls, Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide, Corn Mo, and many others which will be announced in the coming weeks. Information will be updated on www.benfoldsexperience.com as it becomes available.

JB’s musical history boasts an impressive resume. He’s written songs for Miles Davis and played percussion in the Davis group. Bigham played guitar and keyboard for the pioneering rock-funk-ska band Fishbone for eight years, contributing songs, guitars, keyboards, background vocals and production expertise to the albums The Reality Of My Surroundings, Give A Monkey A Brain and Chim Chim’s Bad Ass Revenge.
Later on, he toured as a side man and played on sessions with artists as varied as Eminem, Dr. Dré, Rosey, Joi, Nikka Costa, Bruce Hornsby and Everlast.
Bigham’s latest solo project The Good Girl Blues is a testament to the forceful beauty of music that’s been stripped down to its essence – guitar, voice and naked human emotion delivered in sparse performances that grabs your attention with its raw and spontaneous power.

The Ice Cream Man spent almost a week in Vancouver wandering quite a bit (by foot, train, bike) and slang over a thousand free ice creams at the first Virgin Festival in Vancouver. The weather wasn’t too cooperative the first day but things cleared up on the second day and we were able to give away quite a few treats backstage before pulling out in front of the the stadium to give away ice creams in our custom White Stripes boxes (pick up Icky Thump on 6/19).
For the full review from Virgin Festival - Vancouver, click HERE. Todd Duym got some great panoramic and film shots and newcomers Toby Armitt and Adrian O’brein came through with tons of shots of My Chemical Romance, Metric, AFI, Billy Talent, Hot Hot Heat, Smoosh, Mute Math, Pride Tiger, and many many more.
